The obvious answer is that God cares about widows and their families. Do a word study of widows in the Bible and you’ll also see that our treatment of widows figures prominently in God’s evaluation of us and our love for him.
While in Burundi, I had an awesome opportunity to see some of the ministry being done alongside widows. Years of conflict and instability have left a legacy of broken families. The church and NGO’s are taking steps to help these women with basic needs like food and shelter but also helping them find meaning for their lives and hope for the future.
This widow’s name is Nseyimana Christine. She traveled quite a distance from the hills outside Bujumbura to bring me a hand-woven basket. She is so thankful that the roof we were able to provide for she and her children is keeping them dry in the rainy season. The kids are not sick as often and they aren’t constantly battling the mud and mess.
