Recently we had an opportunity to visit a new church plant in Nogales, Sonora, a mission begun by lay leaders from the Los Encinos church, Horacio and Nohemí (Photo: right). Our hearts were touched when we saw what God is doing here and when we saw the scope of the need in this area that is so close, but we had never visited. We were privileged to be part of the planting of the Los Encinos church in the late 90’s. In 2004 we joined a team from Los Encinos to plant the Manantial de Vida church on the south side of the city. Now the new mission is even more south, about 13 miles from the border! It’s a huge area off by itself in the hills, and many of the people who work there are factory workers reliant on buses to get back and forth to the city. A member of the Los Encinos church is letting the mission use her home, a long narrow one story house, now with a meeting room, kitchen, bathroom and room for the children’s classes. Horacio is a business owner who is dedicating much of his time to pastoring this little flock. Nohemí has also thrown herself into the work, along with others from Los Encinos. Pray for them, for vision, wisdom and endurance as they continue week after week. They meet on Thurs. evenings and on Sunday afternoons. Pray for the many children; there were over 100 children at the Vacation Bible School. Pray for the parents to be attracted to the gospel of Jesus Christ, that entire families will be transformed by God.
Matthew 9:36-38 “Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them…” Entering La Mesa the other night God stirred my heart… so many people that I wasn’t aware lived here, so many who need the hope of Christ.
